Firing in kilns with cogenerative systems, waste-heat-recovery systems, and so on are only short-term corrections not long-term solutions. In modem homes, microwave ovens warm or cook food. An entire industry has grown in the last 15 yr to meet such demands. This industry is bridging over with industrial applications in the rubber and abrasive industries. Therefore, I anticipate that microwave drying and heating are possible solutions.

Profitability: Profitability is required to have funds to invest in the future. A business that does not earn these costs is bound to fade and disappear. The viability of the sanitary-ware industry depends on its ability to form excess capital for the future and to have the courage to commit that capital to the uncertainties of change and innovations.
